Diamond mining expanding in Arkhangelsk

The second development phase in the Lomonosov diamond mining project in Arkhangelsk will start in 2014, leader of the Severalmaz company confirms.

In a meeting with regional minister of natural resources in Arkhangelsk this week, Severalmaz General Director Sergei Gerasimov said that the second phase in the Lomonosov project will start in year 2014.

That will give another 1750 new jobs in the region, he said. The first development phase of the project, the biggest of its kind in Europe, employs 750 workers, the Arkhangelsk regional administration informs.

Severalmaz opened the first phase of diamond mining in the Lomonosov project in 2005. Annual extraction of ore now amounts to one million tons, Dvinaland.ru reports.
